Auxiliary Projects

  1.  Save grocery coupons.  They must be national coupons, but most cannot be used more than six (6) months beyond the expiration date.  They should be for food, household, and baby items.  They are sent to various military installations for use by military personnel.  These coupons can be used in the commissary on double coupon days and are a tremendous help to supplement allotments.

  2.  Canceled postage stamps are again being collected and sent to a veterans' treatment facility where processing them is part of a therapy program.

  3.  Save soda (pop) can tabs for the Ronald McDonald houses in our area.

  4.  Save "Courtesy" items.  These include such things as soap bars, lotions, shampoo, etc. placed in hotel/motel rooms.  These are distributed to other facilities that can use them.

OPERATION TROOP SUPPORT (reprint)

Operation Troop Support is a program of The Iowa American Legion Family developed to assist Iowa Guardsmen and Iowa Reservists and their families during active duty deployment and after deactivation See the homepage at www.ialegion.org for more information.

Some of us have attended troop send-off events late July and early August. We pray for their safety and safe return when we welcome them home later next year. Let us dedicate ourselves to the care of their families while they are deployed and to their welfare after they return. We must also be ready for those who will soon be coming home from Iraq.

WINTER MEETING TIME?

Meeting times are always problems.  Recently some have suggested changing to daytime from December to February to avoid nighttime travel.  We are conducting an informal survey to find an alternate time arrangement.

If you are a Unit or Post member, send your suggested time to the commander by September 10.  The address is:  Marvin Behrens, 320 8th Ave. NW, Waverly, IA50677-1548.

A joint committee will survey the results and make some recommendations.
