We are committed to serving the needs of all Veterans, active and inactive, and their families through programs and events that will provide assistance in securing Veterans benefits, seeking employment, connecting with their families when away from home, and hosting events where they can gather and socialize.
We work with kindred organizations to help Veterans with homeless situations, mental health issues, difficulties getting jobs, and suicide prevention.
Helping returning Veterans through difficult life situations is one of the most important things we can do to get Veterans back on their feet when they return home.
We offer the Veterans Center as the place "Where Patriots Gather" to serve today's Veterans and their families.
Seven sites and/or existing facilities were considered and thoroughly investigated. Cost played a large part in the decision-making process, whether for new construction, renovation, remodeling, utility access, etc.
The plan to construct a 17,300 sq.ft. building was determined by assessing the combined needs of the four veteran organizations. INVISION Architects was selected to work with WAVP to design the project.
The WAVP Board of Directors is composed of twelve members (three members are appointed from each of the four member Posts).
The Board has employed a General Manager, who is responsible to the Board of Directors for the general direction and control of the facility usage, programs and activities within the Veterans Center.
The WAVP Board has created three additional committees: Food and Beverage Committee; Building and Grounds Committee; and, Program and Activities Committee. These committees are currently at various stages of development and on-target to be fully functional.
The total cost of the project (including land acquisition, site preparation, construction, furnishings, landscaping, architect fees and contingency costs) is estimated to be $3,950,000. This estimate was adjusted at the August meeting of the Board of Directors. Our intention remains to raise the necessary funds and have the building debt free.
Groundbreaking took place April 22, 2015.
The Grand Opening and Dedication Ceremony will be Saturday, October 8, 2016 at 11:00 AM.
